Jolicloud ready to add native NVidia Ion support, 1080p HD video
Jan 4th
A few hours back on Twitter, Jolicloud announced that one featured users have been clamoring for is about to go live: built-in support for NVidia Ion.
If you’re running the distro on a system like the Asus 1201N or HP Mini 311, you’ll be able to utilize the Ion’s GPU kung-fu without having to lift a post-install finger. On top of that, 1080P video support has also been added.
Bottom line: if you’re a Linux fan but weren’t sure which distro to load on your netbook, Jolicloud is now a better choice than ever. Don’t forget, it’s Ubuntu-based. You’ve got access to apt-get and all the Ubuntu repositories, where you’ll find loads of awesome Linux games.
Keep an eye on @jolicloud on Twitter, then go grab the new version once it’s released – or just grab it now and perform an update later!
Tiny, open-source Pandora gaming system nears launch
Dec 10th

Not sure what to think of this image? How about this: think of Pandora as a Gameboy for people who love sudo commands. You can also think of it as the gaming equivalent of Fujitsu’s U900, except that the Pandora is going to sell for about $330.
So what’s inside this odd little device?
- ARM® Cortex™-A8 600Mhz+ CPU
- 800×480 4.3″ 16.7 million colours touchscreen LCD
- Wifi 802.11b/g, Bluetooth, USB 2.0
- Dual SDHC card slots
- SVideo TV output
- Dual Analogue and Digital controls
- 43-button QWERTY keypad
Add the estimate 10+ hour battery life to the mix, and you can see why plenty of people are getting excited about Pandora. While it will ship with Pandora’s customized Linux distro and the XFCE window manager, it’s apparently compatible with Ubuntu and Gentoo as well.
Check the video after the break to see Pandora in action. What do you think of the boot time? As an owner of a Nintendo DS which boots in seconds I can’t see Pandora’s startup time cutting the mustard for gaming on the go. However, as an alternative to pocketable PCs like the Sony Vaio P and U900 I think the Pandora is extremely interesting.

Jolicloud to add support for NVidia Ion in time for beta release
Dec 7th

Before you Windows make with the Linux-bashing, yes, you can game on a Linux system – I posted a listed of 25 cross-platform games a while back at Download Squad, and they all run pretty nicely on a modestly-equipped netbook. With that out of the way, on to the news!
Jolicloud announced from their official Twitter account today that support for the NVidia Ion chipset would land in the netbook OS before the public beta. They’re currently looking for testers, so if you happen to own an Ion-powered netbook head over to the site and request an invite – or ping them on Twitter @jolicloud.
Hey, they just added QuakeLive to their stable of apps, too, so why not see if you can get your hands on the OS and try it out?
