Acer has already built systems using NVidia’s Ion chips – though only in their Revo nettops. So where are the netbooks, Acer? Just around the corner perhaps?

Digitimes is reporting that Acer has placed “large orders” for the NVidia Ion 2, which provides support for the upcoming Pine Trail processor. The Ion 2 will also function more like a discrete GPU, since Pine Trail moves northbridge functions onto the CPU. On top of that, Ion 2 will carry at least double the shader units of the original – 32 at a minimum.

That should lead to even better gaming performance on netbooks, right? Right.

So how about it Acer? Can you produce a portable with the Ion this time, or are we going to have to buy from someone else?
