Tiny, open-source Pandora gaming system nears launch
Dec 10th

Not sure what to think of this image? How about this: think of Pandora as a Gameboy for people who love sudo commands. You can also think of it as the gaming equivalent of Fujitsu’s U900, except that the Pandora is going to sell for about $330.
So what’s inside this odd little device?
- ARM® Cortex™-A8 600Mhz+ CPU
- 800×480 4.3″ 16.7 million colours touchscreen LCD
- Wifi 802.11b/g, Bluetooth, USB 2.0
- Dual SDHC card slots
- SVideo TV output
- Dual Analogue and Digital controls
- 43-button QWERTY keypad
Add the estimate 10+ hour battery life to the mix, and you can see why plenty of people are getting excited about Pandora. While it will ship with Pandora’s customized Linux distro and the XFCE window manager, it’s apparently compatible with Ubuntu and Gentoo as well.
Check the video after the break to see Pandora in action. What do you think of the boot time? As an owner of a Nintendo DS which boots in seconds I can’t see Pandora’s startup time cutting the mustard for gaming on the go. However, as an alternative to pocketable PCs like the Sony Vaio P and U900 I think the Pandora is extremely interesting.
